It is a very relaxing and charming place to eat and I can’t recommend it enough.Take Exit 25 (Route 206 North, Newton). The red cabbage and spaetzle were very good. It’s one of those dishes everyone loves when they eat it but no one wants to take time to make it. My great grandmother who was born and raised in Hamburg Germany made sauerbraten for us when I was a child and eating it at the Black Forest inn brought back very good memories. They all ordered jagerschnitzel and I had sauerbraten and it was all amazing. Our server was very charming and friendly and he was patient with us as we explored the amazing German menu. First I want to thank the employees for being gracious considering the young men I was with were all wearing very casual clothes and they were treated like any other customer so thank you for that. I was also taking two of his friends as well. Forest inn doing a search of interesting places to eat in the area. He turned 21 and I wanted it to be a nice dinner. I wanted to take my son who is in college out to a nice dinner that was different than the places around his university which is in south orange. There are so many other places to dine at before you ruin your evening, here. We asked a waiter and two waitresses if they could turn the air on. Whatwasn't entertaining was sitting, eating dinner, and sweating your butt off. The waitress was wonderful and entertaining. $2.75 for what appeared to be a thin 6 ounce glass. refills of that crappy RC cola means you get charged twice. Not to mention $11 dollar cake that was stale, and coffee at $4.00 per cup (served in a cup that would be in a child's tea set). My first impression was that a restaurant that can't sell Coca Cola, or Pepsi, but resorts to RC cola it is in sad shape. Food is still good, BUT outrageously priced for the portions. one can tell that COVID got the best of this restaurant. My previous review was a 4 star rating, food excellent, atmosphere excellent, waitress excellent, only thing wa that the trip was a little pricey. We waited through Covid and it has been three years since we were last here.
